ABOUT
10/7/2021
My art revolves around the everyday worlds of the forgotten past and the created worlds inspired by the deep ocean and stars above. My main interests lay in monster creation, but I also dabble in conceptual artwork that questions societal and gender "rules" that I've experienced throughout my years.

I enjoy learning what I can to give diversity to my art. From knitting to sewing to sculpting to digital illustration, I pride myself in being a "Jack-of-all-trades" with intentions to kindle this thirst for knowledge for years to come.

For now, I currently reside at ATL Savannah College of Art and Design and earning my BFA in Sculpture.
Matthias Shook spent his early days hopping between Tennessee city apartments before settling in the, almost rural, suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Shook has always been a creative type, drawing on the walls at home and doodling in the margins of his notebooks at school. Eventually, as a teen he began to take his art more seriously. Introduced to the art of digital illustration, he was drawn to the possibilities of expressing his thoughts of new whimsical, fantasy worlds.

Shook will earn his BFA in sculpture from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2023. His most recent work explores the impact of losing his father and his Hispanic culture as a mere child, and even his sense of self and gender identity through the growing lens of a teenager now a young adult. Shook is now trying to reconcile and make those once thought broken pieces of himself whole. Even with these deeper reflections feeding into his work, those old, childish fantasy realms still inspire his current artwork as he hopes to one day merge his world and such worlds beyond in tandem.
